Children and youths in Terrace are getting tickets for wearing their helmets while bicycling and skateboarding.
Constable Angela Rabut of the Terrace RCMP Detachment says rather than punish those who don’t wear their helmets, they’re handing out reward tickets for those who do.
Cst. Rabut says based on her observations, people in Terrace don’t wear helmets as much as people in other communities.
She says it doesn’t matter how long the ride is, it’s important to put a helmet on and make it into a habit.
Cst. Rabut adds it’s important for parents to wear their helmets in order to set a good example for children.
A person not wearing a helmet can be fined $29.
The ticketing campaign is set to continue into the fall.
