Last week, Terrace City Council received a delegation from the province regarding a pair of community based child care programs.
The Community Child Care Planning Program would see 25 thousand dollars in grant funding given to projects which identify strategies to inform future child care space creation.
The Community Child Care Space Creation Program would award local governments up to 1 million dollars to create and operate child care spaces within their own facilities.
Yesterday, Council offered up concerns over the programs, saying that they were an attempt by the province to offload extra responsibilities on municipal staff.
Most of council agreed that the program should be a provincial responsibility and issued concerns over becoming involved in operating child care spaces.
Council did, however, agree that the Planning Program could reveal valuable information which could open the door for other organizations.
