A request for Council support on two funding proposals led to a minor debate among Terrace council at yesterday’s regular meeting.
With development at the Skeena Industrial Development Park seeing significant progress, a resolution to support the funding of a marketing strategy was brought before council.
The proposed funding would come from the Invest in Canada Community Initiatives Program and the Northern Development Initiative Trust Fund.
Councillor Stacey Tyers brought up concerns that council support might be interpreted as favouratism toward Taisheng International Investments, who own the lot.
Tyers’ concerns were met with an assurance that the applications would be made by the city, and not the corporation, and would go towards supporting a broad spectrum of businesses.
She remained unconvinced and opposed the resolution while the rest of council approved it.
The total budget proposed for the marketing project is set at 60 thousand dollars with a 5 thousand dollar investment from the City.
