It’s another early opening for the Ksan House Society’s extreme weather shelter.
Elaine McGillivray is the director of housing at Ksan, and says the early opening last week was due to the onset of bad weather.
She says there has been an average of 8 people staying at the shelter so far despite no advertising, which she says shows the service was needed.
Ksan is hoping to move its extreme weather shelter to their new location at 4444 Lakelse Ave in November.
Because it’s an extreme weather shelter, people who are intoxicated but still needing shelter are welcome.
The current shelter is at 2812 Hall Street and is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., but once the new shelter is open the hours will likely extend to 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
