The Terrace Fire Department is looking for a few good volunteers.
Fire Chief John Klie says ideally the department would have about 11 more volunteer members.
While service levels haven’t been compromised, he says having fewer volunteers is putting a strain on the remaining members.
Chief Klie says the changing economics in the region are a major reason for the decline in volunteers.
Many young people are now working out of town or in camps, and don’t have the energy to volunteer when back in town.
He also says women volunteers are welcome to join, saying the Terrace fire department is vigilant against sexual harassment, an issue that has rocked the fire department in Fort St. James.
Anyone interested in volunteering with the Terrace Fire Department can go over to the firehall or find more information online.
