A park in Terrace was dedicated to the memory of a RCMP constable who was killed in the line of duty.
It was 30 years ago today when Constable Buday was killed in Yukon Territory as a member of the Northern BC Emergency Response Team while on a mission to apprehend a dangerous suspect.
The ceremony was attended by Constable Buday’s family, Mayor Carol Leclerc and a large contingent of RCMP members.
Buday’s brother Bob, spoke for the family at the dedication.
Bob Buday says his brother was a humble man, and if he were here to see the ceremony, he would have been embarrassed by the outpouring of support.
He says he’s grateful his brother’s sacrifice is still remembered in the community.
Constable Angela Rabut of the Terrace RCMP detachment was instrumental in getting the project started.
The park is by Mountain Vista Drive and Kalum Lake Road.
