The RCMP held an impaired driving awareness event yesterday at the Skeena Mall in Terrace.
The event was centred around a go-kart challenge in which drivers wore goggles that simulated alcohol impairment.
There was also a RCMP mobile road safety unit dedicated to Alexa Middelaer, a four year old girl who was killed by an impaired driver in 2008 while feeding horses on the side of the road.
Jay Hughes took the go-kart challenge while wearing the impairment goggles.
The mobile unit not only educates the public on the dangers of impaired driving, but can also assess impaired drivers on the spot, which is useful in remote rural areas.
