A man is lucky to be alive after getting lost in a cold swamp in Thornhill, just outside of Terrace last night.
Carman Hendry, who lives close to the swamp by Goodwin Road, says he and his wife heard cries for help around 6:30 p.m.
Hendry says his wife called the police while he went out on his quad to look for the man unsuccessfully.
When the police arrived, Hendry says they tried to pinpoint where the man was calling out from, but he says it was difficult because of the geographic layout of the area.
Terrace SAR arrived around 7pm, and Hendry says they had a tough time working through the swamp to get to the person, where the water can be up to five feet deep.
The man was reportedly suffering from hypothermia when he was pulled from the swamp, and Hendry speculates he was mushroom picking in the area.
