Terrace Search and Rescue sprung in to action yesterday to rescue a skiier trapped near Shames yesterday.
Two skiiers were about 800 metres above the valley floor yesterday afternoon when one of them disappeared.
After a 2 hour search, the other skiier managed to locate his friend buried in snow upside down and tangled in a tree, breathing through a pocket he made in the snow.
His partner uncovered him and, though he was conscious, he was suffering from hypothermia at the time.
When they responded, search and rescue had to meet the pair part of the way due to the treacherous conditions.
They had the formerly burried man transported to hospital by ambulance, and his condition is currently unknown.
