Terrace Search and Rescue is hoping to add a piece of equipment to their fleet.
The group wants to start using a system called human external cargo.
Terrace SAR president Dwayne Sheppard says the line attached to the helicopter will be able to get rescuers to more remote and rugged areas a lot quicker.
Sheppard says Great Slave Helicopters already invested in the line and it’s the matter of getting an application approved by Emergency Management BC.
If it is approved, they could move ahead with buying equipment and getting members trained.
Terrace SAR is hoping they’ll hear back within a few months.
According to Sheppard, they use helicopters for about 25 per cent of the calls they respond to.
The system is currently used by North Shore and Parks Canada SAR teams.
