If all things go according to plan, Terrace will welcome a national hockey tournament in two years.
A local committee, including the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations, is preparing a bid to host the 2017 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.
In a presentation to city council, Committee member and Terrace city councillor Brian Downie says the midget/bantam level event would bring 16 teams along with hundreds to Terrace and the surrounding area for 7 days.
Terrace city council provided support for the idea at Monday night’s meeting.
The committee has to have its bid package submitted in mid-May with a decision on the 2017 host to be expected later in the summer.
Downie says BC has a good chance at getting the tournament as it was last held in the province back in 2004.
