The City of Terrace is showing its pride and joining other BC communities that have added rainbow crosswalks in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual , and transgender (LGBT) community.
Local resident Sarah Artis brought the idea forward. Artis sent a letter to the city, saying she was inspired by the City of Prince Rupert’s recent decision to add a rainbow crosswalk.
Council unanimously endorsed the idea, although the project will cost significantly more than a regular crosswalk.
The city estimates the cost of the rainbow crosswalk at approximately $1,800 while a regular crosswalk would cost about $500.
Where the colourful crossing will be installed has yet to be decided.
City staff will get back to council with more details about location and a timeline for crosswalk.
