The Stemete7uw’i Friendship Centre opens in 100 Mile House

The Stemete7uw’i Friendship Centre in 100 Mile House has recently opened.

Mary Thomas is with the centre, and she says discussions were taking place as far back as 2010 about providing services for people in the South Cariboo area.

Thomas says the centre fills an important service gap in 100 Mile House.

The centre has been open for just over a month, and Thomas says feedback so far has been amazing.

Funding has mainly come from fundraising so far, with a few grants helping to pay for staff.

Currently, people, whether First Nations or non-First Nations, can drop in for coffee and socializing.

But there are bigger plans for the future, with planned youth justice programs, counselling, music programs, and workshops.

Memberships are also available at the individual and group levels.

The centre is by St. Timothy’s Church on Blackstock Road in 100 Mile House.
