School District 54 has announced a third public meeting as the board considers the closure of Lake Kathlyn Elementary School.
The Bulkley Valley school district says the consultation session will take place Thursday, April 7th at Lake Kathlyn Elementary at 6:30 pm.
The district says continuing low enrolment at that school and declining enrolment in general has made keeping the Smithers area school open financially unsustainable.
During question period today, NDP MLA for Stikine questioned the Minister of Education Mike Bernier why the Liberals were giving tax breaks to millionaires while forcing school districts to cut costs.
Despite having fewer students, Minister Bernier responded that under the Liberal government, school funding is at its highest levels.
Public input can also be made to the board through its website or by written submission.
School District 54 is scheduled to make a final decision at a special meeting to be held at the school April 12th.
