The aging ladder truck that has served the Thornhill fire department so well in the past has seen better and has now been replaced.
Fire Chief Rick Boehm says the department got a fire sale deal on the newer truck that they bought from a department in the U.S At a cost of $560,000 U.S. The retail value of the vehicle is $1.7 million if it was bought new.
The new truck is 8 years old with only 7 thousand miles on it. It came out of Sunrise Beach Missouri. It was put up for sale because the ladder truck didn’t meat the departments needs. The new truck gives fire fighter more reach, the old ladder went up 65 feet while this one reaches 105 feet.
With the acquisition of the newer vehicle, Thornhill is on an even footing with Victoria…The only two locations in western Canada to have this type of fire fighting vehicle.
The new truck is expected to be ready for service next month after required permits are obtained.
