Three northern residents honoured with BC’s Medal of Good Citizenship

Three northern BC residents are among 19 receiving the Province’s Medal of Good Citizenship for 2018.

Selen Alpay, of Prince George, is being honoured for his kindness and generosity as a member of numerous volunteer boards and organizations, working with elders, and supporting and mentoring youth.

Representing Haida Gwaii, Fran Fowler of Queen Charlotte, receives her medal after countless hours assisting with health care governance, sport activities, the arts, and youth and senior activities, as well as efforts to protect island culture.

Stan McCarthy, of 150 Mile House, has served as chief of the local volunteer fire department for more than two decades, expanding its reach and training, and going above and beyond to protect his community during the devastating wildfires.

The Medal of Good Citizenship is handed out each year to those who exemplify leadership, selflessness, and community service.
