The BC Government says it plans to continue the pursuit of an LNG industry despite a slowdown due to global conditions.
That pledge, as well as an emphasis on housing, tax credits for farmers who donate food to non-profits, and changes to community care and assisted living, were contained in the government’s throne speech Tuesday.
Doug Donaldson says he was surprised by what wasn’t in the speech..
The NDP MLA for Stikine says while there was plenty of time devoted to LNG, there was precious little mentioned about forestry and mining; two industries that currently employ many and will be the source of more jobs in the future.
Donaldson says he was also taken aback by a comment in the closing of the speech.
Donaldson says he also wanted to see more about the recent human rights tribunal win for Cindy Blackstock regarding child welfare services on reserve.
While the decision targets the federal government, Donaldson says BC has to be at the table for what the ruling means for local communities and children.
