Although the Anaham Reserve is in the middle of an area under evacuation order, some of the Tl’etinqox First Nation members have decided to stay put and try to protect their homes.
Members have set up fire guards around the community and are putting together their own firefighting efforts.
Bob Turner, Assistant Deputy Minister with Emergency Management BC says the band council has chosen not to issue an evacuation order despite advice to the contrary.
Chief Wildfire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says they have provided some communication assets to the First Nation as they are without power.
Forests Minister John Rustad has expressed concern about the situation saying he’s worried what may happen given the rapidly changing wildfire conditions around the community.
