Search and rescue crews found a trace of a man missing off Haida Gwaii Wednesday.
Masset RCMP says the 27 year-old, identified by family members as Brent Hendren, was reported as possibly missing by a friend Tuesday morning.
Hendren lives on Kumdis Island between the communities of Masset and Port Clements. Investigators say he borrowed a small rowboat over the past week to travel between his home and the two villages and was last seen in Port Clements Sunday morning.
Search and rescue crews and the Coast Guard began their search from the ground, air, and water Tuesday and managed to locate the rowboat adrift in the Watun River area.
An RCMP airplane, SAR helicopter, and ground team continued the search Wednesday morning. RCMP say crews found a personal item of Hendren’s in the Ain River area located on the west side of Masset inlet.
RCMP says search teams are now concentrating efforts alone the shore line between the mouth of the In River and the entrance of the Masset Channel, including cabins and the shoreline of the Ain River west to Ain Lake.
