Truck driver saved from submerged cab on Highway 16

A potentially fatal motor vehicle accident occurred this morning just west of Terrace by Shames Mountain.

At 8:30am, Terrace RCMP were notified of the accident on Highway 16 near the Exstew Bridge exit.

A transport truck had gone off the highway and ended up overturned in a waterway that connects to Andesite Creek.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the submerged cab, but fortunately a passing motorist was able to free him.

BC Ambulance attended the scene and the driver was treated for minor injuries and hypothermia.

Booms and barriers were deployed by Environment Ministry crews as a precaution against leaking fuel.
