Trudeau commits to lifting 2% cap on First Nations funding

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlined five commitments as his government seeks to begin a new relationship with First Nations.

During a speech to the Assembly of First Nations’ annual meeting in Quebec, Trudeau told those gathered that Ottawa will move forward on an inquiry into missing and murdered women, work toward a new First Nations education agreement, and lift the two percent cap on First Nations funding.

Trudeau also committed to implementing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to a review of legislation and federal policies affecting Indigenous rights.
