BC wildfire says the Prime Ministers visit to areas affected by wildfire brings a boost in morale to all those frontline workers.
Kevin Skrepnec of the BC Wildfire Services says that the staff in the Williams Lake office have been working hard and some even sleeping in their offices, so a visit by someone like Trudeau is a way to boost spirits.
Trudeau thanked all those fighting the fires and support staff today in Williams Lake for their work and has been encouraging fellow Canadians to donate to those affected by the fires.
Wildfire crews are preparing for another long month ahead of them as this fire season is the third worst in BC history with the numbers to date, and we still have a month to go. August is notably the busiest month for fire crews in British Columbia. The two worst fire season were 1961 and 1958.
Over 426,000 hectares have been burnt since the beginning of April, with a total of 825 fires. Currently, 149 of those fires are still burning in the province, with 7 new fires yesterday.
