Residents of Haida Gwaii will be getting a stark reminder they live in a tsunami zone.
A project will mark utility poles to let residents know where is safe ground in case of a tsunami.
Greg Martin is the mayor of Queen Charlotte and says these markers will make an abstract idea more real.
Mayor Martin says island residents are well aware of the dangers that earthquakes and tsunamis pose, and encourages everyone to have an emergency kit and plan in place.
The markers will be on BC Hydro and Telus poles and will be up early in the new year.
Funding is coming from the province, as well as Telus and BC Hydro.
