British Columbian researchers may have made a break through when it comes to diagnosing multiple sclerosis.
After studying symptoms in 14 thousand patients in the largest ever study in to the symptoms of the disease, UBC researchers discovered a notable link between the disease and other conditions.
Professor Helen Tremlett, the lead author of the study, says that MS patients are more than 4 times as likely to develop depression, irritable bowl syndrome, and sleep problems up to 5 years before the disease develops.
The study spanned 3 decades from 1984 to 2014 and, while there is still much work to be done, it is a huge step for the auto-immune disease that currently has no cure.
