Results from a survey that brought the University of Northern British Columbi and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society together are overwhelmingly in favour of protected wildlife areas.
93 percent of the 2 thousand Canadians polled by the “Space for Nature” survey agreed that protected areas are necessary.
The poll, originally developed by the Zoological Society of London, also revealed that the majority of Canadians want to see half of Canada’s land and sea protected, and furthermore, half of the world.
Beauty ranked ahead of recreation as the prime reasoning among those polled.
Cost also seemed to be only a minimal issue as just 17 percent thought protecting the land would be too costly.
