The University of Northern British Columbia is getting a significant funding boost thanks to the federal government.
The newly announced 800 thousand dollar investment will go towards the University’s Wood Inovation Research Laboratory in Prince George.
The money comes from the Canada Foundation for Innovation in hopes of discovering new ways to use wood in the design and construction of buildings.
Innovations the Lab currently plans to look in to include: composite wood designs to allow for less material usage, development of stronger and greener building materials, and wood-hybrid structural components and joints.
The University is already eyeing the equipment they plan to purchase to accomplish these tasks.
The equipment is set to arrive throughout 2018, with the lab being completed later in the spring.
