The Prince Rupert Airport will be getting upgrades thanks in part to $300,000 in BC government funding.
The money will be used to replace the roof and insulation on the facility’s maintenance building with an energy efficient system linked to the airport’s water harvesting and treatment system.
Because the airport is based at Digby Island, it cannot link to municipal services and the upgrades are needed to make sure the facility complies with environmental regulations.
Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain says the BC Air Access Program funding will allow the airport to make crucial upgrades as the facility takes on increased importance due to industrial growth in the region.
The Prince Rupert Airport Authority will provided the remainder of the funding for the half million dollar project.
