Plans are underway for an urban Aboriginal village development in Prince George.
The project by the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George will see a mix of affordable and market priced housing, as well as space for service providers.
Christos Vardokostas is the executive director of the society, and says the project is holistically designed to incorporate Aboriginal cultures and traditions.
The village is planned for the VLA neighbourhood of Prince George, an area that Vardokostas says offers close access to a number of services for future residents.
He adds it’s important to get community stakeholders to become partners in the project.
Part of the holistic approach is to make the project more than just housing, but a home for future residents.
Vardokostas says they hope to have the first phase of the project in place by 2019, it’ll have approximately 50 units and cost $10 to 20-million.
