Conservative Member of Parliament Bob Zimmer says there is strong First Nations support for BC’s liquefied natural gas industry, including a contentious proposal near Prince Rupert.Zimmer, the MP for Prince George-Peace-River Northern Rockies, was asked about the split within Aboriginal communities over LNG.
Zimmer says that support also extends to the Petronas-back Pacific NorthWest LNG project to be based at Lelu Island.
A pro-LNG rally was held Wednesday in Fort St. John. Zimmer had a delegation of northeast BC municipal leaders in favour of LNG in Ottawa this week.
First Nations hereditary leaders, including those whose territory includes Lelu Island, also made a trip to Ottawa this week to argue against the Pacific NorthWest LNG project. Friends of Wild Salmon Chair Gerald Amos says if the federal government approves the project, it would be like declaring war.
