A search and walk in the Interior will take place this weekend for three missing women.
Members of the Splatsin First Nation will be leading the 118 kilometre walk this May 21st and 22nd to raise awareness for Caitlin Potts, Deanna Wertz, and Ashley Simpson.
All three women went missing from traditional Splatsin territory within a close time span over a year ago, with two of them being neighbours.
Jody Leon is one of the organizers of the event and she says the walk will take place over three different locations for where each of the women went missing.
She says she feels a duty to help the families of the missing women.
Leon says despite Canada celebrating its 150th birthday this year, this year’s celebrations don’t address the issue of murdered and missing Aboriginal women and girls or the experience of Aboriginal peoples.
She urges all Canadians to remember those Aboriginal women who have gone missing or have been murdered.
