The abrupt rise in the level of the Kitimat River earlier this week has led officials to be warned residents should boil their water before using it.
A water quality advisory has been put in place aimed primarily at pregnant women, the elderly, children and people who have weakened immune systems.
Business owners who serve water are being asked to inform their customer of the situation.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice
Meanwhile, Smithers residents are continuing to boil their water as the town and Northern Health work to clear up the contamination of the water supply.
