The saga over the site of a derelict pulp mill near Prince Rupert continues to drag on.
The owner of Sun Wave Forest Products claims that a 2013 settlement reached between his company and the City of Prince Rupert is null and void.
Ni Ritao has taken out an ad in the local newspaper to state that the confidential deal entered into by Sophia Liu on behalf of the company was done without his okay.
The City of Prince Rupert has issued a media statement claiming otherwise. Veronika Stewart is the city’s Communications Manager.
Stewart says the both the city and Sun Wave have taken steps to implement the agreement over the past two years, including the filing of dismissals of all litigation commenced by the company and the discharge of pending lawsuits regarding ownership of Watson Island.
Meanwhile, Stewart says the decommissioning of the old pulp operation, which began in August, continues and is expected to take approximately 2 years.
