RCMP say two people died in separate crashes along northern BC highways over the weekend.
Mackenzie Mounties say a Jeep left Highway 97 in the Pine Pass Sunday night. The vehicle hit the ditch, throwing the driver from the Jeep. The driver suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene. The passenger was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police believe alcohol and distracted driving were factors in the crash.
Highway 16 east of Prince George was also the scene of a fatal crash Sunday.
RCMP say a five ton truck slowly drove off the road 15 kilometres east of Purden Lake and overturned on an embankment.
The passenger in the vehicle suffered serious head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say they don’t suspect speed or alcohol were factors.
Anyone that witnessed the crash should contact North District RCMP.
