West Fraser says it plans to reopen its WestPine MDF plant in Quesnel by this fall.
The medium density fibreboard operation was halted by an explosion and fire March 10th.
In a staff meeting Tuesday, company president and CEO Ted Seraphim says West Fraser plans to resume manufacturing by October, 2016.
Seraphim says WestPine will be equipped with a new system with advanced safeguards.
He says the company is confident it can re-engineer the equipment and process flow at the facility to ensure worker safety.
As a result of its investigation of the incident West Fraser says it’s also making changes to its Ranger Board plant in Alberta, although it has not specified what it’s investigation revealed.
WorkSafe BC is also conducting an investigation into the explosion and fire.
