Prince Rupert’s own Wheelhouse Brewing took home the bronze prize at the Canadian Brewing Awards in Richmond last Saturday.
Wheelhouse won in the “Smoked Beer” category with their Smokehouse Porter.
Kent Orton is with the brewery and says it’s nice to receive the recognition, especially when among peers and the larger breweries.
Orton describes the Smokehouse Porter as having a subtle smokey flavour that pairs well with barbeques and is good in the winter.
He says it uses smoked local grains as well as German grains smoked with beechwood.
Unfortunately the small batch has already sold out, though there are plans to brew another batch at the end of the summer.
