Tolko Industries and West Fraser Timber have idled their operations in the Cariboo due to unpredictable wildfire conditions.
Tolko has announced that its Lakeview & Soda Creek mills will not operate Monday, July 10th. Company officials say their top priority remains the safety and well-being of employees, many of whom have been displaced from their homes.
“Our message to our employees is to stay safe and look after your family and home needs first,” reads a statement on the company’s Facebook Page.
Tolko says its managers will meet daily to determine the company’s operating status.
West Fraser announced Sunday that its operations in 100 Mile, Williams Lake and Chasm would be closed.
The company has told workers that, unless contacted by a supervisor, they should take care of “family and personal matters.”
It says the health and safety of its employees is of paramount importance.
