The BC Wildfire Service is tackling a wildfire in the Cariboo.
Officials say the fire, discovered Friday June 23 approximately 40 km southwest of Lac La Hache, is estimated at 8 hectares in size and listed out of control as of Friday evening.
The fire is burning approximately 5 kilometres away from Esketem’c First Nation Nation. The BC Wildfire Service says it has engaged members of the First Nation.
While the flames don’t pose an immediate threat to public safety or homes right now, the fire is burning in close proximity to provincial transmission lines.
Airtankers, 25 firefighters, and two helicopters are on site with heavy equipment en route.
The BC wildfire Service is strongly urging people to stay well away from the area while the fire is burning.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
