This year’s wildfire season in BC is now officially the second worst on record, following only last year.
Currently, nearly 1 million hectares of land has been burnt since April, closing in on the 1.2 million from last year.
There are at least 550 active wildfires in the province, with more than 60 of those qualifying as wildfires of note, forcing more than 5 thousand residents from their homes, and leaving another 22 thousand on evacuation alerts.
As a result of the devastating flames, the province also finds itself under a state of emergency for the second year in a row with another month left to go in the wildfire season.
