While the areas scorched by wildfires so far this year is still above the 10 year average, there has been relief for the areas hit hardest by last year’s record wildfires.
Nearly 47 thousand hectares have been the victim of 577 wildfires this year through june, trumping the decade average of 33 thousand.
The numbers could be misleading however, as a quick start to May was quelled by a relatively damp June, especially through the central interior that played host to the most sizeable fires last year.
Officials are predicting continued improvement throughout July as most of the province currently sits in low risk areas.
The northwest is the only part of the province facing consistent moderate risks.
