The Province of BC says the wildfire situation in the Cariboo and Central Interior remains extremely volatile.
During a conference call update Saturday, Forests Lands, and Natural Resource Operations Minister John Rustad said the fire situation exploded from just 12 new fires Thursday to an additional 142 fires Friday night.
Rustad said the flames have forced 3000 households to evacuate with more preparing to pack up.
Rustad says there have been buildings lost, but the aggressive nature of the fires has made getting an accurate number all but impossible.
The Province says there are approximately 1600 personnel engaged in the fire situation with more firefighters and waterbombers from other provinces expected by early next week.
Rustad says provincial officials have been in touch with the federal government, but so far, they have not called in the military for assistance.
Rustad says continuing strong wind, dry lightning, and hot weather all mean that the possibility of more fires and losses in the days to come.
