Dozens of fires burning throughout the Cariboo and Central Interior have prompted a Smoky Skies Advisory.
Interior Health and the BC environment ministry say the forest fires will result in poor air quality and reduced visibility for affected areas.
Officials are urging people to avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Contact your health care provider if you experience difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, and sudden onset of cough or irritation of airways.
Smoke exposure is a particular concern for infants, the elderly, and those with underlying medical conditions like diabetes, heart, and lung disease.
Stay inside if you have breathing difficulties. Find an indoor place that’s cool and ventilated. Using an air conditioner that cools and filters air may help.
The advisory will stay in place until further notice.
