The Chief of the Williams Lake Indian Band says she’s extremely disappointed with a recent Federal Court of Appeal ruling, but not surprised.
The Specific Claims Tribunal had ruled in favour of the Band , but the federal government asked for a judicial review.
Chief Ann Louie says the Federal Court of Appeal decided the matter itself and dismissed the Williams Lake Indian Band’s case altogether.
Louie says the entire process seems contrary to the Specific Claims process which was set up by the federal government.
Louie isn’t ruling out an appeal, but she says they want to look over the decision before any action is taken.
Louie notes the federal Liberal government has withdrawn other appeals of Specific Claims Tribunal rulings launched by the former Conservative government.
