As of today, anyone travelling on major British Columbian highways will be required to have approved winter tires on their vehicle.
Drivers will need to ensure that their tires are marked with either the M+S, mountain, or snowflake symbols, and that their tires have more than 3.5 millimetres of tread depth.
Commercial drivers will also be required to have tire chains in their vehicles at all times.
Drivers who do not comply with the rules will face a 109 dollar fine.
Winter tire restrictions will remain in place until March 31st on most highways, with some mountain passes and rural highways extending that to April 30th.
