Woman sues province after daughter dies in foster care

A BC woman whose infant daughter died while in foster care is accusing the provincial government of being reckless with her case.

Sara-Jane Wiens says she was deemed unfit to care for her her two-month old baby in 2011, and the child was put into a foster home where she was found dead two years later.

She has now filed a lawsuit against the BC government and the province’s director of child, family and community services alleging that the infant wasn’t properly supervised.

Children and Family Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux says the ministry launches a review any time a child dies in care, but would not comment on the specific case.
