Woman tries to escape police by jumping onto a ice floe

A woman is in custody after a break and enter in Prince George over the weekend.

Prince George RCMP say around noon last Sunday, they were told of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Christopher Road in Miworth, just west of Prince George.

A homeowner had returned home to find a woman in his residence.

The woman fled in a pick-up truck, narrowly missing the homeowner, but colliding with the homeowner’s vehicle.

A police dog was called in and tracked the suspect to an ice floe on the Nechako River.

The suspect had started a fire on the ice, and police believe she was attempting to destroy evidence.

The woman resisted arrest, but was taken into custody without incident.

Police later determined the pick-up truck the suspect was driving had been stolen that earlier that morning from Prince George.

25 year old Philicity Rhea Lafreniere of Prince George has been charged by with a number of offences.
