BC’s Independent Investigations Office is looking for information relating to two separate incidents in Prince Rupert from last month.
Just before midnight on October 26th, RCMP responded to Park Avenue after several calls regarding the wellness of a woman who had been shouting at passing cars.
When they arrived, they determined her to be intoxicated and the woman was arrested.
At around 6:30 the following morning, while lodged in the detachment’s cells, the woman requested medical and was transported to hospital, where she was treated for serious injuries.
On October 29th, a man also requested medical assistance after being arrested, reportedly without incident, just after midnight the prior morning.
Later that morning, he would go in to medical distress, and eventually pass away in hospital.
Now, the IIO is looking to determine what role, if any, police involvement played in both incidents.
If you have any information which may be of assistance, you are asked to contact the IIO Witness Line at 1 855 446 8477, or follow this link to submit online.
