The City of Terrace has approved that funds totalling 50 thousand dollars be allocated for the hire of an additional interim Community Safety Officer.
Currently, the city is waiting on approval for additional CSO funding from both the Union of BC Municipalities and the Northern Development Initiative Trust which could bring on 3 more officers.
30 thousand dollars of this budget will cover the wages of a full time CSO for the next 3 to 4 months.
The remaining 20 thousand will be used on safety equipment such as protective vests and portable radios which would also be utilized by the two current Bylaw Compliance Officers.
According to the report to City Council on Nov. 14, there is already a prospective hire who can start as early as next week.
