Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine updates on John Brown Creek Wildfire

An evacuation alert in Witset remains as the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine says the John Brown Creek fire activity has been minimal.

Now at over 330 hectares, the district says firefighters are challenged by steep terrain though continue to assess the fire for any direct attack.

Structure protection has been completed and heavy equipment teams guard the east side of the fire while crews try to direct it to natural features like a creek.

An evacuation alert is not a call to evacuate, but to be prepared by packing essential items and making travel plans with family.
