With overnight emergency room closures becoming common at many BC hospitals, local officials are appealing to the Province to do more.
Rallies and protests popped up across the province over the past few weeks as residents voiced their concerns over similar challenges.
Now, local officials and health experts are lambasting the Ministry’s response, saying they fail to understand how serious the issues are.
When ERs are closed, patients are told they will be able to access transportation to the closest facility which offers the required services.
But, in the North, those services can be a fair distance away from each other, leading to further concerns for those with travel limitations.
According to Northern Health, there were more than 95 emergency room closures in the region between the beginning of June and end of August.
Sixteen of those were in Hazelton, while 12 were in Fort St James, three in Kitimat, and one each in Terrace and on Haida Gwaii.
