A campfire prohibition which had been in place for the entirety of the Northwest Fire Centre has now been partially rescinded.
As of noon today, Category 1 open burning will be allowed once again in the Skeena, Cassiar, and Bulkley Fire Zones, but remain banned in the Nadina Zone.
In addition to campfires, Category 1 blazes also include tiki and similar styles of torches, burn barrels and cages, curtain burners, and binary exploding targets.
A campfire can be no larger than half a metre in both height and width, and some precautions must still be followed.
Those include: ensuring easy access to a shovel or 8 litres of water, creating a fuel break around the fire, and fully extinguishing the fire to the point where the ashes are cold to the touch.
Category 2 and 3 fires remain banned across the province.
